CHIETA CONFIRMS COMMITMENT TO THE GREEN HYDROGEN ECONOMY WITH COMPREHENSIVE STUDY FOCUSING ON SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

With pressure gauge ออก หลัง to a lately completed hydrogen production proof of concept (PoC) initiative in Vredendal within the Western Cape, it’s safe to say that South Africa is well on its approach to producing green hydrogen as a half of its renewable power posture.
To this end, the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) has embarked on an 18-month research challenge: A comprehensive research of hydrogen energy in SA which is able to help us in our efforts to help the Hydrogen Economy, figuring out development areas for abilities and economic improvement.
The study, which is already underway, is being conducted in partnership with analysis groups and is geared toward not solely our own expertise improvement targets but in addition authorities and corporations of all sizes throughout the chemical industries.
A comprehensive research of hydrogen power will focus on:
The assortment and evaluation of documents, baseline information, and a literature evaluation on the state of the Hydrogen Economy in South Africa.
The production of a green hydrogen analysis report that responds to the project’s objectives.
We consider the project’s outcomes and recommendations won’t solely help authorities, via the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and chemical sector corporations, but additionally support the country’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP).
Furthermore, we are working on a Green Hydrogen Skills Plan for our petrochemicals sub-sector. This will permit us to determine the top-10 skills in the green hydrogen economy and shut the hydrogen skills hole by making certain that expertise is domestically produced.
It’s additionally encouraging to notice that one of our member companies, Sasol, is already taking half in a leading position in the green hydrogen economy via its analysis partnership with the DSI and the Northern Cape Economic Development and Investment Promotion Agency (NCEDA). CHIETA will quickly be collaborating with NCEDA to ensure a well-coordinated and shared response to abilities planning for the green hydrogen financial system.
The feasibility research for the production of green hydrogen within the Namakwa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is being performed at Boegoebaai, a port positioned within the local municipality of Richtersveld. As our biggest member company and largest expertise levy contributor, Sasol hopes to determine the port as a worldwide centre for green hydrogen production.
Through projects and initiatives such as Sasol’s Boegoebaai research, a roadmap is being crafted that will stand the chemical trade in good stead and position the nation as a worldwide leader within the manufacturing of green hydrogen energy.
CHIETA may also be actively pursuing a green hydrogen analysis chair position in collaboration with public institutions to advance excellence and innovation in green hydrogen for the future development of scarce skills. We will be investing more than R 5 million into the CHIETA Green Hydrogen Research Chair as part of our growing funding into analysis and improvement.
As the chemical trade, we’ve a significant role to play in what’s undoubtedly the following step in the evolution of renewable power, not only the continent, but across the globe.
